HOW WE GERMINATED

The concept of Red Shed malting started as a small seed, when Joe started brewing small batches of beer. It took root through numerous conversations at the family dinner table and was nourished by our desire to taste our own barley in Joe’s beer.

A FOURTH GENERATION FARM


The history of the Hamill family growing barley in Alberta dates back to 1929. It began when Bernard Hamill moved his wife Madge and six young children from Ireland to Penhold, Alberta.

FARM GROWN MALT

We produce farm crafted base malts, lightly kilned, caramel/crystal, roasted, and specialty malts. In the fall of 2015 we will have limited supply of roasted malts. Coming this Winter we will start the production of all types of malt.
